To settle into the silence I often use a mantra, a phrase that I repeat in sync with my breath. It helps me settle. It’s an anchor to return to when my mind goes wandering about.
In years past I would count, 1 2 3 up to 10, then start over again. When my mind wanders away and then I come back to my mantra I discover that I am still repeating it. If I was counting, I am still counting, have not lost my place.
Today I used a new phrase
silent expectant waiting
silent expectant waiting
silent expectant waiting
As usual, my mind went roaming around. When I came back I was still repeating the mantra in sync with my breath but this time the phrase had changed.
silent expectant radiance
